Magic (MAG) is the stat that affects the damage output of magic-based classes. On weapon-based classes, it improves magical damage mitigation. The center, horizontal line on a focus board boosts this stat.

Offensively, it is treated the same as STR when it comes to damage calculation. When a physical class is in parry or guard stance, a character's MAG stat is added to their RES.
